Hello,

Understanding what assisted Living Cost

Most families are working this out for the first time, often in a difficult week. Here is a plain explanation of what is included, what is not, and how people pay

Medicare does not pay for assisted living

This surprises almost every family, so it is worth stating clearly.

Medicare covers medical treatment. Hospital stays, doctors, and short periods of skilled care after a hospital admission. Assisted living is different. It is help with daily living, meals, supervision and personal care, and Medicare does not cover it.

That does not mean families are on their own. There are several routes, and we will talk you through the ones that apply to your situation.

What the monthly rate includes

Included in the monthly Rates

Our monthly rate is designed to give residents and families a comprehensive assisted living experience. Depending on individual needs, it includes:

• A private or semi-private room

• Three nutritious meals a day, plus snacks

• Assistance with activities of daily living

• Medication assistance and management, as permitted and applicable

• Housekeeping and laundry

• Assistance with personal care

• Recreational and social activities

• Basic transportation for planned facility trips

• 24-hour supervision and support

• Care coordination with healthcare providers and family

• A safe, comfortable and supportive home

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

What Costs Extra

Some specialised or additional services carry a separate fee. These are always discussed with the resident and family in advance, and are based on individual needs

.• Hospice coordination, $700 per month. We work with the resident's hospice provider and family to coordinate care and support within the home.

• Respite and short-term stays, $350 per day, subject to room availability and care needs.

• Transportation beyond planned facility trips, charged per trip or as a monthly addition.

• Incontinence supplies, purchased separately or through a monthly supply arrangement.

• Administrative and assessment fee, $500 where applicable, covering the initial assessment, admission, care planning and related documentation.

• Move-in and admission fee, $500.

We would rather you saw this list before you visit than discovered it afterwards.

Ways families pay for care

Private Pay

Long term care insurance

Long term care insurance

Most families pay from a combination of savings, pension income, Social Security and, in many cases, the proceeds of selling a parent's home

Maryland Community Options Waiver

Maryland Community Options Waiver

Maryland Community Options Waiver

Maryland runs a waiver programme that allows Medicaid funding to follow a person into a community setting such as ours rather than a nursing home. Doasis Care has applied to participate. If you believe your parent may qualify, please raise it when you call.

Monthly rates depend on the room and on the level of care your parent needs. We discuss rates during your visit, once we understand the situation properly, rather than quoting a figure that may not reflect what your family actually needs
